TRAFFORD LABOUR’S £45 GARDEN WASTE FEE SPARKS OUTRAGE
Labour-run Trafford Council is facing a backlash over its proposal to charge local residents £45 to have their green bin emptied.
The move, which has ignited fierce criticism from residents and Conservative Councillors alike, adds yet another unfair financial burden on households, especially vulnerable groups.
Local residents have voiced concerns that the introduction of the green bin levy could lead to an increase in fly-tipping and garden waste burning, with many arguing that the fee unfairly targets those on fixed incomes, older residents and those with gardens.
Trafford's Conservative Councillors are concerned that Labour is for the seventh year running, planning to increase Council Tax by 4.99%. Add to that the Mayoral precept, which is, as of yet, undisclosed, all this could see hundreds of pounds added to peoples council tax bill at a time when folk are already worried about their heating bills. With Labour's decision to remove the £300 Winter Fuel Allowance for thousands of pensioners, it seems that Labour's idea of "vote for change" is to make residents pay more for less.
