At the 2022 Trafford Conservative Group AGM, Cllr. Miss Linda Blackburn from Village ward was elected as Group Leader and Cllr. Daniel Chalkin from Hale Central ward was elected as Group Deputy Leader.
Cllr. Miss Blackburn has been a Trafford councillor for 14 years and has had 20 years of teaching including as a special needs teacher and has also had a 20-year career in social housing in inner city Manchester and Salford. Within Trafford Council, Cllr. Miss Blackburn has served on the Council’s Executive as well as Shadow Executive and has served on Greater Manchester Combined Authority committees too.
Speaking on becoming Trafford Conservative Group Leader, Cllr. Miss Blackburn said “I was born was raised in Old Trafford and was educated at Seymour Park Primary School and Stretford Grammar School for Girls where I benefited from Trafford’s fabulous education system which allowed me to pursue a valued career. I care passionately for Trafford and its residents and will do my best to help every Trafford resident achieve their full potential.
“As Leader of Trafford Conservative Group, I am very aware that every seat on Trafford Council is up for election in 2023 and in the run up to those elections, I will do my best to ensure that Trafford residents are fully aware of our Group’s and the Party’s stance on various issues. I will also be reaching out to residents who might have once voted Conservative but no longer do so. I want to ensure that current and future Trafford residents can benefit from Conservative policies, just as I have done and my aim will be to increase Conservative representation on Trafford Council in 2023.”
