As part of the Government’s levelling up agenda, the Sale West estate in Trafford is receiving £975,000 from the estates regeneration share of the Brownfield Land Release Fund. The Fund was established to help level up communities in England. Projects receiving the grant funding are making improvements to the quality of the living environment for residents. This includes modernised energy efficient homes, improved community facilities and new green open spaces.
Work has already commenced in Sale West, which includes the building of up to 263 new homes, primarily on brownfield sites. Irwell Valley Homes have committed over £7 million in funding to their 5-year programme to improve 1,100 existing homes within the estate. The grant funding from the government will plug a funding gap and will enable phases 1 and 2 of the project to be completed.
Rob Duncan, local campaigner and Conservative candidate for St. Mary’s ward in the 2022 Trafford local government elections said “I am delighted at the announcement in the Budget that as part of the government’s levelling up agenda, Sale West is to receive £975,000 to support plans to improve the quality of the estate. The funding is essential to plug the funding gap to allow phases 1 and 2 of the regeneration project to be completed and I would like to congratulate everyone involved in securing the funding.
“I am aware that this is one-off funding that is required to be spent within the financial year 2021-22 and I would therefore urge Irwell Valley Homes to work at pace to ensure that the funding is drawn down and the phases are completed as soon as possible. It is also crucial that the voice of residents on the estate is listened to and while it is very welcome that 263 new homes are to be built on the estate, it is also essential that existing residents are not forgotten and their homes are refurbished to the standard that has already been promised and the damp issue in homes is dealt with.”
