Trafford Conservative Group has offered their congratulations to Kate Green, Member of
Parliament for Stretford and Urmston MP on being appointed as Shadow Education
Secretary. The appointment follows the sacking from the Shadow Cabinet of Rebecca Long-
Bailey, the Member of Parliament for Salford and Eccles for sharing a false anti-Semitic
conspiracy theory.
In welcoming the appointment, Cllr. Thomas Carey, Shadow Lead Member for Education at
Trafford Council said “On behalf of Trafford Conservative Group, I would like to congratulate
local MP, Kate Green on her promotion as Shadow Education Secretary. It is great for
Trafford to have another high profile MP within its ranks and the Conservative Group would
like to wish her well in her new role.
“As a teacher at a Trafford school, I appreciate just how key it is for all children to receive the
best education possible, especially during the Covid-19 epidemic. In Trafford, there is a
variety and choice for parents in the education system and there are two great state funded
grammar schools in Kate Green MP’s constituency. Unfortunately, the MP is on record as
being a critic of grammar schools and has not always supported parental choice in where
they send their children to school. In addition, the MP is also a supporter of abolishing
private schools in her constituency through ending their charitable status and seizing their
land, property and other assets.
“It’s disappointing that the new Shadow Education Secretary is on record as not supporting
all the schools in her constituency and doesn’t believe in giving our brightest young people
the best life chances. Trafford Conservatives, however, continue to be committed to Trafford
parents having a choice in education provision, including private, selective and faith
schools.”
