Trafford Conservatives are disheartened to hear the news that Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit is set to close. We are also equally baffled by the response of the Labour Party, given that they voted against the Council Motion put forward by our Councillors proposing that Council write to the relevant authorities to urge them to ensure that Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit remain open.

It has been interesting to watch Labour change position on Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit where previously they hounded Trafford Conservatives for engaging in so-called ‘populism’ on this issue. Trafford Conservatives can see that Labour MP Connor Rand is going to raise this issue in Westminster- again off the back of Trafford Conservatives and Parliamentary Candidate Oliver Carroll’s campaign to keep Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit open.
Regarding just how much Labour’s position has changed on this issue- you can see this quote from Labour Councillor Sophie Taylor, where of Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit, she states:
‘we have possibly a very niche service for a very small sector of the population who are probably the least deprived, and I’m just glad to hear that this wider review is going to be undertaken really, because it almost sort of suggests or begs the question: is this service actually needed?’

Trafford Conservatives demand better than shutting down vital services permanently and see this as the thin edge of the wedge of selling off the building altogether. Over 1500 people signed our petition making it clear the Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit is needed. Long trips to Wythenshawe are a waste of resources that increase the amount of travel people undertake.
The closing of Altrincham Minor Injuries is a vindictive attack on residents, and we are calling on Lib Dems and Greens to support our demands to make life easier for families.
