Trafford Tories welcome Government funding boost for top performing school
TRAFFORD Conservatives have welcomed a Government funding boost for Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
The school is set to receive a slice of a £50m bonus-fund to extend its site and create more pupil places.
The grammar, sighted as one of the best state-funded schools in the country, will be one of sixteen selective schools to benefit from the government expansion fund, with the money going on new classrooms and to expand a scheme to help disadvantaged children.
If planning permission is approved, the school’s capacity will eventually increase from 1,215 pupils to 1,400 in September 2020.
Welcoming the news, Village Councillor Laura Evans said: “It’s fantastic news that Altrincham Grammar School for Boys has been recognised as one of the best state-funded schools in the whole country and this funding boost will help all the staff there carry on with their excellent work.
“While in power the Conservatives worked hard to ensure Trafford was one of the top educational performers in the country and we will continue to ensure this carries on, holding Labour to account to ensure they carry on supporting our schools as we did.”
