Shadow Executive Member for Communities & Safety, and Broadheath ward Councillor, Dr Kaushik Chakraborty has grave concerns over The Mayor of Greater Manchester’s, Andy Burnham’s proposals to alter firefighters at Sale fire station, night time operational hours.
Cllr Kaushik goes on to say, “let’s be honest about it if these changes are to happen, In order for the firefighters to get to the station as proposed they will need to drive to the station from wherever they reside. This might only add 5 mins to their journey at certain times, however between 6pm – 8pm in the evening and 6am - 8am in the morning can be very busy, this could add 20 mins or even more on match nights to firefighters response times. This delay might affect our families and lead to delays in addressing critical incidences.
Leader of the Trafford Conservatives, Cllr Nathan Evans says, "the Greater Manchester Mayor is prepared to increase the fire precept for a Band A property to £50.80 and an additional £5 for a band D property taking it to £76.20, this year. He is set to invest £6 million into a new, state of the art fire station for the people of Stockport, meanwhile looking to reduce the services at Sale Fire station, for a cost saving of £340.000! We are not sure how these proposals have been decided but find it totally unacceptable and we can't support it, residents of Sale and Trafford deserve better."
The consultation is worded in such a way that they make out by cutting operational hours they are doing everyone a favour!!!!!!
