Sale Fire Station Petition - Under the plans in the GM Mayor Consultation Sale Fire Station would be crewed until 6pm daily and firefighters living within four minutes of the station would be on a bleeper and would rush to the station in the event of an emergency.
It is reported that a firefighter, who did not wish to be named, said: “Sale Fire Station will be empty between 6pm and 8.30am every night. “Local firefighters will be on call instead, which will slow them down by four minutes. Flash over can occur within those four minutes, which means an entire room can be lost to fire.
They said that if the proposal is approved, 90pc of the firefighters will be moved to other stations which means ‘losing vital local knowledge’ on the risks to residents and businesses of the Sale community.
“Partington will have the longest response time for a fire engine within Greater Manchester as a result of the proposal,” they added.
At the council meeting on the 19th of July the Conservatives put forward a motion to, "ask the Labour administration to write to the Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to uphold his commitment not to cut services and leave residents of Sale at risk from delays to response times, making it clear we reject in full GMFRS’s proposal to move Sale fire station to a day crewing model."
Labour councillors and the Labour Parliamentary candidate, Labour Councillor for Ashton On Mersey, Cllr Ben Hartley refused to support our motion voting against writing the letter and rejecting the proposal in full.
