Labour’s proposal to cut funding for school crossing patrols in Trafford, aiming to save £100,000 money, which could be used to protect children. But instead been squandered on unnecessary projects such as cones along the A56 and Labour giving themselves (index linked) 40% pay rise. Many are questioning why the safety of children seems less important than lining the pockets of politicians.
Former Broadheath ward councillor Dr. Kaushik Chakraborty has long campaigned for improved pedestrian crossings at the dangerous junction of the A56 and Sinderland Road. Despite his persistent efforts, the Labour-led council has failed to take action. Dr. Chakraborty says, "What guarantees do we have that these crossings will ever go ahead?"
In response to the proposed cuts, Cllr Nathan Evans, leader of the Trafford Conservative group, is demanding that the council prioritise children’s safety. He says, “We are calling on Labour to put their money where their mouth is—install the Pelican, Puffin, and Toucan crossings first, before considering axing the school crossing patrols.”
Residents are being urged to have their say on Labour's plans to reduce children’s safety and potentially eliminate school crossing patrols from the borough. Have your say below
